Kelly L. Brown Announced as Director of Programs and Evaluation

The Marguerite Casey Foundation is pleased to announce that Kelly Brown has accepted the role of Director of Programs and Evaluation beginning July 2, 2007. With over 20 years of experience in the non-profit and philanthropic sector, Ms. Brown brings to the Foundation, a wealth of experience and expertise in organizational and program development, research, planning and program design for strategic funding initiatives and the strategic implementation of community-based capacity-building programs.

Ms. Brown joins the Foundation from Viewpoint Consulting in Chicago, where she specialized in strategic philanthropy and program design for institutions and individuals investing in organizations working for social justice. Prior to founding Viewpoint Consulting in 2000, she was Director of Marketing and Industry Relations for OpNet Community Ventures, an innovative program that prepares low-income youth in communities of color for high tech careers. At OpNet Community Ventures, she developed partner relationships with private sector employers and managed highly successful career development strategies.

Ms. Brown has also served as Grants Director for the Vanguard Public Foundation, where she planned, implemented and evaluated the Foundation’s grant making programs and expanded the grantmaking program through the development of three new grantmaking initiatives. From 1986 to 1992, Ms.Brown worked for TransAfrica and TransAfrica Forum, where she was initially Director of Marketing for the educational and research arm of the nation’s leading African American foreign policy organization and ultimately Administrative Director for both organizations.

Ms. Brown is currently enrolled in a Doctoral Program in Sociology at the University of Chicago where her research focuses on the intersection between leadership, organizational structure and social movements. Ms. Brown currently holds an MBA from the University of CA at Berkeley and a BA in Sociology from the University of CA, Santa Barbara.
