“Campaign for Just and Humane Immigration Reform”

What: The U.S. Congress is poised to introduce new immigration reform proposals, and the Movimiento Del Valle Por Los Derechos Humanos, the community based program of Casa de Proyecto Libertad, a 25 year old immigrant rights advocacy organization in Harlingen, Texas and other allies will submit over 1000 signed letters by residents of the Rio Grande Valley to the offices of Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John Cornyn.

The signators to the letter writing campaign are asking Congress to support just and humane immigration freeform that:

  • Grants permanent residency to undocumented immigrants and their families that live in the U.S.
  • Provides a safe and legal avenue for future immigrants to live and work in the U.S.
  • Protects workers from abuse and exploitation
  • Ensures that border security measures respect the civil and human rights of border residents

This campaign will be coinciding with the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights “National Immigrant Rights Advocacy Days” in Washington, D.C. Casa de Proyecto Libertad is a member of the NNIRR. The NNIRR is a membership based national organization in Oakland, California that works to promote a just immigration and refugee policy in the U.S. and to defend and expand the rights of all immigrants regardless of immigration status.
