SEATTLE, WA – The Marguerite Casey Foundation
today announced it has hired Chantel L. Walker
as its new Director of Programs. With nearly
20 years of experience in philanthropy and community
development work, Ms. Walker will help guide
a $30 million annual grantmaking program dedicated
to helping low-income families strengthen their
voice and mobilize their communities.
“Ms. Walker has a wealth of expertise and
knowledge in building stronger families and communities,” said
Luz Vega-Marquis, the President and CEO of Marguerite
Casey Foundation. “The Foundation looks
forward to the vision and leadership she will
provide our grants program as we work to catalyze
a movement of low-income families.”
Ms. Walker comes to Casey from the Marin Community
Foundation, where she lead a program focused
on community economic development, housing, civic
engagement, family self-sufficiency and leadership.
She previously worked as the Chief Programs and
Administrative Officer at PowerUP: Bridging the
Digital Divide, a national initiative and forum
for America Online and other technology companies
to provide the resources needed for young people
in underserved communities to access the digital
age. Prior to her work with PowerUP, Ms. Walker
served as a Division Director at the National
Economic Development and Law Center (NEDLC) directing
technical assistance and demonstration projects
in community economic development and neighborhood
capacity-building nationally. She has also worked
as a Program Officer with the Miriam and Peter
Haas Fund, overseeing projects related to early
childhood education, neighborhood capacity-building,
homelessness and facilities development.

experience,” Ms. Walker said. “I

Walker, who begins at Marguerite Casey Foundation
on March 1, is an active volunteer with several
nonprofit organizations and public agencies.
She is the former President of the San Francisco
Redevelopment Agency and the Women’s Foundation
of California. Currently, she is a Member of
the State Bar of California Board of Governors
and of the Neighborhood Funders Group Board of
Directors.
