Chief Financial Officer

“Instead of a life plan, spend your time developing a life philosophy. Then you will have tools to evaluate every fork in the road.”
Dr. Bill Foege, former MCF Board Member.

I am very fortunate to have found what I’m meant to do with my life. My work at the Foundation combines my passion of helping others with my skills as a business professional.

As a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Planner®, I am trained to understand complex financial information. One skill that’s essential to my work is the ability to interpret that information and tell the “story” behind the numbers so informed decisions can be made. Problem–solving skills are also critical in my work; my goal is to help the Foundation be innovative in its approach to ending poverty while remaining consistent with our values.

I’m responsible for the development and implementation of the Foundation’s investment and financial strategies.  I oversee the Foundation’s investment portfolio, budgeting, accounting and financial reporting, risk management, and information technology. I also work closely with our Grantmaking team in the development and implementation the Foundation’s program related investment (PRI) strategies, as well as providing counsel in the assessment of grantees’ financial health.

While my team doesn’t get to work directly with our grantees every day, we contribute to our mission by making sure the Foundation has the financial resources and tools needed to accomplish our work. Whether it’s investing our $750+ million portfolio or filling the copiers with paper, my team’s goal is to support the mission and goals of the Foundation.

Prior to joining the Foundation, I was a principal at Clark Nuber P.S., a CPA and consulting firm, where I specialized in helping foundations and nonprofit organizations achieve their goals through improved accounting practices and business strategies. I currently serve as the treasurer of Hispanics in Philanthropy and 501 Commons. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Washington University and an Executive Master of Public Administration degree from University of Washington.
