ABout

Economic Security Project (ESP) advocates for ideas that build economic power for all Americans. They support research and elevate champions to win concrete policy victories and provoke the conventional wisdom to shift what’s considered possible. Their team disburses grants, runs issue campaigns, develops creative interventions, and convenes to encourage investment and action from others as part of their work to check corporate power, champion guaranteed income, and advocate for cash tax credits.

ESP is developing a Public Options initiative to support, resource, and connect nascent efforts to create public options.  The initiative includes four core pillars:

  • Growing the Public Options Community of Practice  to bring activists, campaigners, organizers, researchers, and practitioners together to learn, strategize, and build together by breaking down silos across sectors and geographies (e.g., childcare, banking, grocery);
  • Launching the Public Options for America Fund, which will resource nascent campaigns to advance public options across the country through an initial open call that we’ll be launching in September 2023;
  • Building the Public Officials for Public Options Network, which brings together government officials and political leaders to test and overcome challenges in administering public options; and
  • Seeding narrative interventions that build greater understanding of and buy-in for the positive role of government" and the ways that public options can build economic power for each of us.
